Protecting Michigan Families

• Allow homeowners facing foreclosure to refinance and secure fixed-rate mortgages;


• Enact tough prohibitions against predatory lending, including lowering the interest rate caps for shady payday lenders;


• Stiffen penalties for fraud in mortgage lending, and direct the Attorney General to increase its investigation and prosecution of those people and companies who engaged in mortgage lending fraud;


• Enhance information targeted at ensuring all Michiganders have basic financial literacy.


• Require faster notification in the case of product recalls;


• Ensure Michiganders have access to justice when hurt by hazardous recalled items;


• Continue our national leadership role in the development and use of health information technology that puts consumers in the driver's seat when making their health care decisions;


• End the practice of insurance "lasering," by which health insurance companies can terminate coverage to those individuals who are suffering from chronic diseases;


• Strengthen Michigan's identity theft protections;


• End the one-state immunity for drug companies when their products hurt or kill Michigan residents; and


• Increase penalties for gas price gauging.
